Re: HELP HELP - Lost Ignition Key

The merc number for the ignition switch with keys is F5H078 and the cost is under 50 bucks. If you google it you can probably get it cheaper somewhere else. If you call a local merc dealer and give them that part number you wont have to pay shipping. Installing a new switch is real easy.

A lock smith could make you a key look up your local yellow pages;) and compare prices.

Re: HELP HELP - Lost Ignition Key

Thanks for your quick response. I removed the ignition switch from the dash(not an easy task in itself) but could not disconnect it. The switch has 10 wires all sealed that go to other connection blocks and look to be hard wired to remote locations. I got on line to look at switches and found that they range from $150 to $350 depending on the length of the run (the length of the wiring harness I guess). This looks like a big deal to me and that is why I posted to see if there was some way I can replace the key.

Re: HELP HELP - Lost Ignition Key

older versions have a slotted head screw connecting the wire to the different spots on the switch and then has shrink tubing covering the contact. Looking at the 99 force I dont see the ignition switch called out on the parts list. The harness is saying harness/ ignition but I dont see a switch on the pic. Part 4 is the harness. It cost 85 dollars. If there is shrink tubing around the connections to the switch it might not hurt to pull one back and see how the wires are attached.

Re: HELP HELP - Lost Ignition Key

eurolarva: Thanks for the response. The wires (10 of them) go directly into the back of the switch and are held in place by some form of seal material. There are no screws or shrunk tubing. I am hoping that a locksmith can help me out tomorrow because pulling and replacing the switch and attached harness look to be tough.
