Hi all, my brother in law just got his hands on a 9.9 outboard that he's pricipally gonna use as a trolling motor and he asked me if it's possible to hook up both outboards to 1 tank. Common sense would dictate that its possible but I cant find any info whatsoever on how to do it. I tried googling a splitter and only came up with a setup that allows you to run 2 tanks to 1 motor but not vice versa.

Any help with this would be appreciated

thanks

Sure. A simple Y connector will do the job. You can get one at any hardware store. I like the brass ones better than the nylon ones. You can put it anywhere along the line, but I like to have a bulb for each engine.

However, with that said, it's better practice to have a separate tank for your kicker. That way, if you need the kicker because you're out of fuel or the fuel has been contaminated, you can use the other tank.

It's a safety measure. Those kickers will run a long, long time on a small 3.3 gallon tank.

I think you would have to have two bulbs. (one for each branch) If you did it with one would you not start sucking air back through the motor that isn't running? Rick.

Thanks for the reply guys. I didnt think you could just get a y connector from the hardware store. Simplicity tends to be overlooked. As for the seperate bulbs, I would have never even considered that.

Thanks a bunch!

Actually you can't buy a Y connecter. It's called a T connecter but I didn't want to act like a know-it-all. I've spent half my life ignoring the obvious, and the other half wondering why the solution isn't obvious. Have fun. Rick.

Are you sure you can't buy a Y-connector? Like this one:

CATransplant: Man your good creating things on that photo shop software! Just kidding and by the way I was thinking of brass not nylon. That's what I get for trying to be a know-it-all. Never say never. Thanks for making me feel humbled. Rick.

Brass ones are also available. I just couldn't find a photo immediately. A good hardware store will have them. The Delrin ones like the one in the photo, though, will do a good job, especially since it'll be on a hose and won't get a lot of side pressure anywhere.
