Guys,,my prop does not have a cotter pin to remove. It looks to me has just a plain ole nut. I have tried everything in my tool box to get this thing to break free and it won't.

Any pointers! I even tried to beat my wrench with a hammer while soaked with WD!!

Thanks, Tim

Place a peice of wood under the propeller on the ground, raise the bow of the boat so the part of the propeller nearest the ground is wedged on the the peice of wood, then put a 2x4 between the cavitation plate and the top of the propeller, useing a 1/2" breaker bar, being careful how much pressure you apply to the breaker bar, let the breaker bar do the work, go slow and take your time and see if the nut comes loose.

Disconnect the sparkplug wires before doing this so the engine won't start!

Try a 1/2 inch impact gun, if you have access to one. If you don't have one, maybe a neighbor has one.

My guess is if it's that tight, it's probably cross threaded. I hope it's not though.

Use a three jaw puller and replace the arms with chains.Wrap the chains around the ears of the prop and tighten the screw applying pressure. The prop will come off the shaft unless it has been too corroded. Reinstall with grease after cleaning.Jerry

UPDATE!!!!

Hey Guys,
I got the Prop Nut Off!

Dear Santa,,, Please bring me some of those AIR TOOLS!!!

I stopped by our local boat dealer and the tech was the only one there ( They are closed until after new year),,,,,,anyway he just happen to be there and I told him about the Nut not coming off. He looked in the back of my truck and seen it there.
He told me to pull around to the shop,,,,,,brought out a 15/16 air socket,,,,stuck a piece of wood to hold prop and ZZZZZZZZ!,,,,,,,the nut flew off.
He rubbed his head and said what idiot put this Nut on there? He said it was a lock nut that they used 30 years ago in the Auto Industry.
There was a hole in the Shaft for a Cotter Pin,,,,,,,reached in his tool box,,,spun on a nut,,,put in a new Cottor Pin and Merry Christmas!!!

That goes to show you,,,when you buy these old engines,,,no matter how well built they may seem, you will come across a problem that will make you wonder!!!

Get a Survey!!!! When buying a used boat.

Thanks Everybody!
Merry Christmas

No Charge,,,,,,,,,,,I think I kinda snook up on him. They were closed up front and I just drove around back and found him.

He could have been robbing the place,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
