The state of New Hampshire wants to know the following to register a trailer.
I bought the trailer with no title and just a bill of sale.
The trailer I think is a Starcraft, Because the builders plate says 3 72 which I think means March 1972. My 14ft Starcraft Boat says 1972 also.I bet they came as a package together. I could be wrong. Anyway They want to know the following information..
1. Gross Vehicle Weight
2.List Price... I have no idea how much this trailer cost new. I bought the Boat and Trailer together for $200 used.
3.Vin.. I have that
4.Year.. Which is 1972
5. Make .. Not sure, How would I find out using the Vin #
6. Model..Again not sure
7.#of Axle's..Thats easy, Single Axle
8. Color..Again easy..Black
If anyone can help Me out let Me know, Thanks.. Ron

The VIN will tell the manufacturer but DMV would probably need to look that up SO........... call it a starcraft

Now VT has an idiot way of doing it.......they refuse to call a trailer worth less than $300 and charge registration tax based on that regardless of what you paid :(

The VIN verification should be easy if you contact a local police officer and have them run the VIN ;)

I cant weigh it with the boat on it because I can't move it without registering it..Unless I could use a portable scale which I don't think I will.Maybe I'll just see if Myself and another guy can pick it up and guess the weight..lol

Before trying to lift it just call a trailer shop and ask what a similar one ways. Give or take a couple hundred pounds shouldn't matter much. Stick with the Starcraft trailer, unless the DMV can find something different. In reality accuracy is probably not that important. I registered mine in MN as home built to avoid that BS, but I'd check to see if that requires an inspection before trying. When I registered mine I made up most of the info right there at the DMV including the VIN (867 5309) and the lady doing the paperwork knew it and I would say encouraged it.

does the trailer have surge brakes? If it doesn't and my guess it doesn't, the boat probably grosses out around 1500 lbs max and trailer is steel, ad another 800lbs. Had a Starcraft Islander 1974 191 series.

If boat is on the trailer take a house scale, set the tounge of trailer on it (level) see what the toung weight is and add 8%. I'll bet that gets you darn close to gross weight +- a few lbs, but good enough for Gov work.

I have no idea what you're trying to calculate. If the trailer is properly configured with a tongue weight of 5% to 10%, adding 8% to that gives you a range of 5.4% to 10.8% of the total trailer weight. I guess your calculation reveals some of the problems with government.

I would tell them 250 lbs empty 1000 lbs with the boat. That will make them happy and you can go on your way. You aren't hauling commercially and no cop is going to ask how much your rig weighs. Plus that people will keep a trailer and change out boats happens all the time.

If reccomended toung weight is 10% and no one ever has that ratio, adding 8% of the weight would put you in the ball park of total weight. Don't you think that would be close?

Ayuh,... If the tongue weight is 10% of the gross weight, you'd multiply that #, Times 10 for the gross weight...
