I just bought a small bay boat that came with an 88 Yamaha 90 and I want to install new gauges but don’t know what kind to get. I have looked all over the web and found some that I really like. My question is; do I need Yamaha specific gauges or are they universal? Also, what gauges should I get? (i.e. Tach, MPH….)

Thanks.
CLL

the new yamaha ones are nice, work well and are mostly plug and play to your harness. they will requre an adaptor so ask your selling dealer.

Tach and water pressure would be my first choices. If speed is important, get an inexpensive GPS and stay away from the headaches of maintaining a speedometer.

while water pressure is nice if its a saltwater motor and the pressure tap plug has never been out It aint coming now. my choice would to be a test of the alarm system every 30 days and a cooling system tune up once per year.
I probably have my buddy weld 8-10 a year that people tried to unscrew after 10-15 years of salt water use and the threads came out with the block. we just make an aluminium plug and weld it back in place. cost about 100 dollars or so.
