cannot tell you anything by the model # but I can tell you that I bought one new, in 1967 from sears, 5 hp.. cost then was $105.00 new.. one of the best little outboards I ever had, most dependable.. all white with the throttle lever in front that worked side to side and built on fuel tank.. mamories... :)

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

I don't find a 14261 It appears the 1400 series started in 77 at 14035B.My after market manual covers all small outboard brands 60-89 Eska coverage ends at 85 .14208 5 hp runs from 84,85.I found a 14207 3.5 hp in 83,84,85.
Motor uses an air cooled Tecumseh power head AV600 you may find parts at
a small engine shop. The leg is water cooled using a pump.water should mist out of the relief holes in the leg.If the motor has a clutch it won't pump water in neutral.

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Thanks for trying

Got the info I have an 86 model 5hp Which is why its not in most books.
Got it for a deal ...FREE
Doesnt run, could be just needs freshend up. Gave it a tug and it has great compression.
It has a remote tank nipple and a twist throttle and a gear selector with F and N Its all white with dark blue and med blue stripes and it says Eska on the cowl and 5.0 on it

Anybody know what fitting I need for a remote tank?

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Your Eska was built by.... Eska.
I have several of them myself, and they were decent, inexpensive outboards. Sears sold Gamefisher outboards that were made by Eska and were identical except the color scheme. Anyways, I believe you can use a Chrysler fitting on the Eska's. At least they appear to be identical. You might also try checking at a Sears parts store as the fitting for the tank would be the same for a Gamefisher. I just checked ebay - there are some there. Look for "eska, sears ted williams, gamefisher female gas fitting"

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Thanks for the help so far.

Now I'm being told its an 87 5hp

Anybody know for sure? It says on tag under cowl

Model 14261A
Ser 04009203

And on engine
643-35C 7009

Want to make sure I order the correct replacement parts and it seems last couple years Eska was in business is a little cloudy on the info.

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Google Discount Marine Parts
Scroll to Eska under outboards
Eska (according to them) last year made 87. Can't figure your number..seems 14208 was that last year model# 5hp.
That said..parts pretty generic all later years anyway. That might have electronic ignition, so if ya get spark, just yank the carb and clean it out. You have a spring drive on that F/N. It does have a water pump impeller to cool the bottom of the block, and cool the exhaust leg.
It will NOT spit water unless in gear...then you should get some spray out the holes (ya have to run it in a bucket for this). You can fire it in a vice, just dont run it long. I always used 24-1 on oil too, never did know what it called for. Simple motors, easy to work on...

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Think I'll stay away from Discount Marine. Emailed them for help already and they said tag was misprint first so wanted engine number, gave them engine number and now they say I got a 15HP. It is positively a 5hp and its a single cyl 2 stroke. 9 and 15 hp were 2cyl. This motor looks like new doesn't even look like the plug has ever been out. so it also cant be switched parts.

I would just like to know what I got for sure and why isn't it in any books. Ive been told its a 85 5hp, a 86 5hp, a 87 5hp, and now (what a joke) a 87 15hp.

thanks for info on parts being same

Well, I have had a couple..just SOLD a 71 3.5. your numbers are junk..they don't match ANYTHING..who knows all these years.. it maybe had another mid tossed on (damn motors were all the same..for years on the B/E on the 5's, P/W pretty interchangable)
Again..got spark?...fine..got compression?..move on..now take the carb off and drop at ANY lawnmower shop..say "do whats needed..they probably have one sitting there now..SOOOOOOOOOO darn common..)

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

I've got no problem with fixing it. You cant get more simple than a single cyl 2stroke. I'm not looking for help on how to fix it. I just want to know what I got.

If you know what I got please help. If you dont know then dont answer. Not trying to be a smart*ss but I just need some info.

It IS a 5hp ESKA and
It IS 100% all original, no parts swaping whatsoever.

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Post a picture of the motor if you have the capability jmlloar, somebody may know right off what year it is after looking at it. Also look for other possible numbers marked on the motor. I don't know nothing personally about that brand motor just trying to help and give you different ideas.

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Go To Craftsman.com And Look For The Parts Link Tab,go There, type In Your #'s In The Correct Fields And Find Out What You Have,it Will Also Give You A Break Down On The Parts And Motor,it Also Works For Just About Any BRAND Mowers And Power Tools And Appliances.. Since Sears Sold The Eska's, Even Thou Its A Outboard It Should Still Be On The Site..:)

I think I have the same outboard. Single cycle 1 spark plug. Mine is a Golden Jet 5 ESKA. The fuel/gas mixture is S.A.E 30 outboard motor oil per gallon of gas. It is an all white motor with a sliding troudle switch on the front of the motor. It also has a nob on the from that goes from 1 to 8 for trolling speed. This could be the same as yours but not sure. Descript yours more in detail. I am still trying to determine the year of mine. It was just given to me and runs like a champ.

Re: Help ID an Eska outboard

Well, I just went to ebay and it appears that they have bunches of service manuals for those Eskas and even a bunch of carb kits too. I think a service manual would be a great investment and would likely help you identify your motor.
