Hello, I'm new to the forums and to boating in general. I am trying to get some information on a boat I purchased a few days ago from an individual. From the HIN I know it is a Starcraft and was certified in 1983, but I have not been able to find out anything else about the boat. It has been painted camouflage (apparently it was a duck blind 2 owners back). The boat is 15 1/2 feet long and 6 1/2 feet wide (pictures attached). Can anyone help identify what model this boat is?

Also curious about 2 digits (-C4) appended to the HIN if anyone knows what they might mean if anything.

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Nice looking Boat ! Crazy paint job. It looks well cared for. Do you have the hull numbers or the old title it will help inentify the vintage.

Yes, it was definitely taken care of. Everything on the boat works and seems well maintained. Embarrased to say, but, the paint job helped sell me on it :D. The HIN is STRL94891283-C4.

Well I talked to someone at Starcraft finally and they said based on the dimensions they are pretty sure it to be a Bass Boss 160. The C4 appended to the HIN according to Starcraft makes it an 1984 model (actually when it was certified). Hope to take it out in a couple of weeks. I have changed the plugs and ran the motor, but plan to change the lower unit oil next weekend.

Nice looking boat Cabu. Welcome to the club. So whats the game plan? Do you catch the fish or just scare the h#ll out of them and they jump in the boat? Honestly, I like the paint job too:D It would be cool to put red light lens where the eyes are:eek: but really don't want to cut the boat for that.

I figure I can scare the fish to a buddies boat :) . Hoping for warmer weather tomorrow to change out the lower unit oil. Replace the prop payday :( (looks like a real shark got hold of one of the blades). And it should be ready to hit the water.

cabu1966;all,

fwiw, about 1970, i had "a juvenile tiger" (i'd guess about 6-7' long) try to take a bite out of the lower unit on my 1958 Mercury Mark 78A (called, popularly, "a dockbuster"), while i was "live-lining baitfish"/chumming for kings, off Aransas Pass, TX.

as Mark 78A's were "direct reverse" & always "in gear", i think it must have been "quite a surprise" for the little fellow. = got some "really interesting looking" teeth-marks on the foot, too.

yours, PG :D
