Hey iboaters! I appreciate this site and these forums. They have helped me countless times since becoming a new boat owner! Been searching, though, and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I have an 1987 deckboat with a 5.0L OMC Cobra. Sorry I don't know part numbers or serial numbers at the moment. Solenoids click when trying trim in/out but no movement. Worked fine in the water on Saturday and when trailering. Got it home and couldn't lower unit.

Check the usual wiring, fuse, etc IAW service manual. Jumped trim motor to 12V source and nothing. Trying to figure out what kind of electric motor I need. The three wires plug into a "T" shaped connector. The numbers you see stamped on the motor are the only numbers anywhere. Looks like 0317 401 011 on top and IT-2182 under that. Google didn't help!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Help ID trim motor

I see severe corrosion on the negative lead, (black wire), where the copper wire is crimped.

It might not be passing current. Measure with an ohmmeter between black and blue, (up), then black to green (down). Both should be low, maybe 2-3 ohms.

If much higher, you might be able to remove the corrosion by dipping it in weak muriatic acid for a while, then solder it, test again.

Or, cut the end off, crimp a new male spade on the wire.

Is it an OMC Sea drive trim motor? Can you get a ruler and measure diameter and height?

Re: Help ID trim motor

Thanks wire2. I left the connectors in place but skinned the wires back from the plug and got some good copper. No multimeter so I had to go with the 12V source again but got the same results.

RRitt,

Without a micrometer, the best I can give you is what I read from a tape. Looks like about 5" in length (from end to end) and approx 2 3/4" in diameter at the shaft end. The body of the motor is about 3" in diameter I've attached a couple photos of my measurements. Hope this helps!

Thanks
