Good Morning to all! Could someone help identify the year and engine size with Even/fastwin serial #15016-11068. p.s.
engine was sitting on 12' aluminum lonestar boat in shed since 1972. Hasn't ran since. Engine is hand spinning without the plugs but has serious petina all over it. Paint just flaking off every where even inside engine covers. could this fastwin been under water at once or is it just the weather and time eating eat? Pictures available. Thank you all much. ...Jess

that paint falling off is good, it will be nice and easy to get it all off and do a nice respray on it.
I would say just weathered myself.
it looks like its gonna be a good old engine when painted back up.

be nice to know if she still runs ok, are you getting a spark from it ?

It is a 1956 15hp. Has it been underwater??? Heck, who knows. However, it seriously has had a lot of exposure to the weather and clock and looks normal for one that has sat outside for over 50 years. More than that, possibly in a salt water area (Like Texas Gulf front).

San Antonio's what, a little over two hours from the Gulf? Looks to have at least spent some time stored in salty air if not used in saltwater... That chalky oxidation under the paint doesn't happen in warm dry environs...

Thank you guys for a fast response! I appreciate all comments especially identifying the motor. Tomorrow I will check for spark. Previous owner lives 1-block from me and i know the boat and engine was in his open shed facing the street since 1992. Shed finally collapsed to my advantage, he decided to sell all.
He claimed it had never been in saltwater, though I question that. Question? Do you deal with the paint removal and sanding like any other metal project? Do I use marine paint etc. I guess all new decals and instruction labels are available too? Again guys all info is really appreciated.

Being cast aluminum, you need to use proper primers to get best adhesion. Simply spray painting it with hardware store paint won't last.

Well checked for spark today on the 56 Evin/ 15 hp fastwin and got nothing. One problem I noticed though is that the throttle handle is frozen in place. Could it perhaps be affecting the no spark if its set to engine kill. Sounds like a dumb question but i'm not a pro at boat motors either, at least not yet! Engine does seem to have good compression.

jmo.....but it would be a miracle to get spark on that motor even if the coils have been replaced. with all that oxidation you can be sure that the points are just nasty dirty!! you need to do some reading in the top secret file at the beginning of this forum, and do whats needed to wake up your sleeping motor!!

Mine's a 54. Solid mounts. 55 or 56 has isolation mounts w/ remote setup. You can find the serial # on line somewhere. Check the points for about .020 and continuity and clean w lacquer thinner. If coils are cracked will probably need replaced. Also LU seals and shift shaft seal. Impeller. Mine goes 20.3 gps on a 15 ft Pipestone.

Sorry!....nwcove Apology accepted! my bad. Advice taken anyway. Yeah, your avatar does look like she's seen better days. Is she running now? That's the bad thing about txt messages. They loose the real flavor of the conversation. Sorry again!

Today I will remove the flywheel to check coils and points. Are you guys saying the gap is 0.20 on this fastwin.

Well, took flywheel off and surprised to see points, condenser and coils looked really clean as if they had been replaced before last use.
Didn't get to check point gap yet, ran out of time. Will do this tomorrow or Tuesday. Posted pictures003.jpg004.jpg
