Help identify what kind of boat this is?

I've got 6 pix at photobucket.com

It's just over 16' long and 6' wide. All fiberglass, except wood in transom and crosspiece to support front seats.

I can find NO identifying marks, maker, manufacturer, and not even a serial number on it anywhere. Caused a real problem getting it registered. It had a very old "Crowley Lake" permit if that's any help. I'm just guessing it was built in the 60's because of the styling. I've looked for a serial number on the transom, both inside and out. As well as near the front seating positions.

Except for left side, about amidship, there's no fiberglass work I can see that might have obliterated the maker's marks. But my research has indicated that some boat manufacturers didn't put any serial numbers on their boats at all.

It DID have California CF number, but they weren't in the CA DMV database. Last trailer registration was 1981, and last CA CF sticker was 1980.

I've put all/more than probably helpful in here, in case it spurs anyone's memory.

Any help identifying the boat/mfg/year/??? would be appreciated, including links, other places to search, etc.

Thanks,

Rich

Not a clue....
However , as it has registration decals and number , you can most likely track down that info from your state DMV , or , WRA (wildlife resource agency..) .

Good luck .

Can't help with boat type, but that looks like a 15 inch transom.

If you don't mind restoring to less than factory original condition, raise whole transom cut out to 20 inches and register as a boat with a 20 inch transom. It will automatically be rated for at least 10 hp more and you will have a larger selection of engines from which to choose.

Looks like an old Larson. They made a series of boats in different lengths and called the hull design a "Lapline"...due to the laps on the bottom. Dates were mid 50s into the 60s. Google around and you'll find info on them...I think there's a dedicated Larson site out there by an old Larson employee.

It's definitely a Larson, from the bow design, moulded in seats, and lapline bottom, that's their trademarks and I believe they came out with that lapline bottom design in the early 60's. I had a 1962 16' All American red/white with a 70hp Merc many yrs ago.

Some more info, the highlights from the history over at the fiberglastics Larson site are: From 1957 They had the lapline bottom, in 1958 their boats were all fiberglass, instead of a wood/fiberglass combo. In 1959 the trademark "Sidesweep" moulded in sidestripe, was standard on all their boats, So I'm guessing your boat is a 1958 Larson All American style, and according to the old brochures there, the Max recommended HP when New, was 80hp.

Re: Help identify what kind of boat this is?

Thanks to you all, you're amazing! You're all correct, definitely a Larson All American, 16'. Yes, I like the molded seats as well... :)

Sorry I didn't make it clear, the boat was registered, apparently last time back around 1981, but the California DMV has NO record of it, even though it still has the CF numbers to look up! AND, I can't find ANY serial number on the hull or top fiberglass at all, giving them, and therefore ME fits to get it re-registered.

I have a 1960 Evinrude Lark II 40hp to put on it (if it'll run, been stored for umpteen years and no idea if any precautions were taken before storage, but that's another story for another forum... :)

So, if anyone has any more hints on how/where to find a serial number (may be under paint?, but I don't want to sand the whole thing down to glass just to find it... :)

I'm checking more on the fiberglassics.com website, hoping someone with a restored one can help with where the serial number, IF there's a serial number, would be. I've heard that on some boats back in those days, there weren't any serial numbers at all. Oh Boy!

hi rernst, welcome !
Way back in the good ol' days (pre 1972) alot of boat manufacturs didn't put serial # on their boats . Ask the CA registration people it they issue a hin.
As for the motor check out "AWAKENING A SLEEPING OUT BOARD" in the repairs forum. Great motor too!!

If I find out there is/was never a serial number for the boat, how do I prove that to the DMV?

No last registration, just the CF number on the hull, but their computers had no record of that either.

Re: Help identify what kind of boat this is?

Ok, it's probably a 1959 Larson All-American 16' (model 160). Apparently the "plate" was glued on above the controls pad in front and is often long gone.

So.... it once had a serial number, but apparently no way to verify it now. Ugh.
