I'd appreciate a little help in identifying an outboard motor I have, in order that I can get the correct servicing info for it.

It's a short shaft, two-stroke, tw-cylinder outboard. The engine cover identifies it as a Johnson and also carries the decals 'Bigair' and 20.

I haven't been able to find a serial number anywhere but as it's been re-sprayed it may have been covered up.

Can anyone tell me where to look for the serial number and give me any other identifying information about it please?

Regards
Gary

A model number usually appears on the top of the mounting clamp.Or try looking for a soft plug or
freeze plug on the power head with a number.

I've just gone out to the boat house to check but there's no sign of anything on either the mounting clamp or anywhere else. I'll lift the cover off later and see if I can see anything stamped into the engine castings.

Cheers
Gary

Gary, if you can't find a number, a picture will help narrow it down (with and without the cowling). Spent months in Holy Loch (Navy), and all of my relatives live in Ayr and Cumnock. This forum is excellent and I'm sure with a little more info we'll find out what you have there.
Good Luck

Looks like an 80/81/82 other than that hard to say. The "bigair" decal means nothing. Must have been owned by a kid that likes NASCAR...

Re: Help Identifying Johnson Outboard

Thanks for the comment. I've scoured the engine block looking for a model number as there's nothing on the outside, but to no avail. I'll have to find out where our local outboard engineer lurks and get him to have a look. Probably Campbeltown or Tarbert I'd guess.

Regards
Gary
