So today I brought an old 4Hp Two stroke, Two cylinder outboard of a mate for $100 bucks. My problem is that the serial number and model number can't be found on the list of their model numbers it is a: 4BR74R There is a 4R74R which looks completely different, I'm beyond confused right now because it looks like a mix between an 84 and 83. But if the model number abides by its code its a 1974....First photo attached has model and serial second photo shows the outboard without bottom casing. Need to know because the O-ring and seal on the prop are broken and don't know where to get a part for a model number that i cannot find. If more photos are needed I can happily take more tomorrow morning.

Thank you All
Michael

Maybe the transom bracket has been changed. Just by looking a few things indicate 1980s. A 1974 should have the throttle on the side, not on the front. It appears you have a shift lever for neutral. Which a 74 should not have. Also I dont think there was a model with a built in gas tank in 74.But maybe it is as Vic says and it is Australian made.

Yer thats what I was thinking, it's a very weird designn looking at it I knew straight away it wasnt a 74 as the model number indicated he wasnt sure but he thought it was 84, I compared the two 83 and 84, it has an 83 hand grip, but a 84 throttle or something like that. Cheers for the responses I might just swap it back to him and get a newer model

Even if so the top is weird I cant find anything about it only except for two comments about it with zero knowledge of what it actually is. Its not a 4BR74 unfortunetly as the first person ahs written that much i have found it. The stickers dont match any other model as far as design.

Decals on the upper part of motor appear to be the 86 model year,----What parts do you need as parts are common year to year,----Post picture of lower unit.----Picture of motor with tank off ??

I would concur that it is a 1986 with a 1974 clamp bracket. The recoil housing, neutral clutch, etc. all point to 1986. If you can't find the model number on the disc, I'd go with J4BRHCDE and call it good.

Also does that mean you think the bracket may have been broken and they just swapped it over so the model number would be no help

Although the 86 looks similar I dont think that what it is the lower outboard mounting bracket has two wholes, the one it just wraps around Ill get a picture

Okay so i've discovered something....as hardwater pointed out there was a metal disk on the powerhead. that metal disc.....matches the serial number on the plaque on the clamp.....Screenshot 29 shows it
