I bought some boating items from craigslist due to the price, and I got a stainless steel prop 3 blade that is stamped 48 87444A-4 15p. I am googling that number, but I can't find any information on the prop. I also got a 3 blade I think aluminum prop that is stamped 300z.

I am mainly looking for information on the 48 87444A-4 15p, as I am looking for a backup for my 150 1989 Mariner outboard, the pitch matchs, but not sure if it will work.

Never mind I think. I may have found the information by changing my search around a little. I think my diam is 15.25 so no go..

That was a 13 3/4 x 15 SS prop that fits most Inline 4 and 6 engines. Should work fine on your Mariner. It is for pushing something fairly big. Remember Dia is a function of design. Generally the lower the pitch the larger the dia.

Will I see any performace issues going from a 15.25 diam to that smaller prop or am I looking at it the wrong way?

Don't focus on the Dia, but on the Pitch.
What kind / size boat.
What is your current MAX RPM with a normal load.
What pitch prop was on when you made the meaurement?
look for stamping on the side of the hub, or for p/n on the end of the hub with the prop off.
What are you looking for, max speed, overall good performance, water sports. You can't have it all.

1990 20' Misty Harbor Pontoon

Currently has a 15 Pitch prop

Boat is new to me, only had out once so far. Bought it, took it to lake, was out for 10 minutes to see how things ran, then dropped off at the shop to have everything checked out. Speed was about 30 mph, I do not recall RPM.

Not looking for water sports. We purchased the boat to go in with a friends speed boat, so we are going to be the base for everyone to hang out and swim, while the others in the group ski/tube from the speed boat. The 150hp motor that came on the pontoon was a bonus. Looking for good performance, not doing anything to damage the motor and to have a backup prop.

Should be fine for an emergency prop, but really has a high rake which is not ideal for pushing a pontoon.
