The trim pump on my 79 Baja with a Mercury 900 has been locking up frequently enough that I think its time for a new pump.
Every time it locks up I have to disassemble the pump to find that the motor/small gears have jammed. I have cleaned the pump and motor and it works for a short time but soon jams again.
The trim pump is a gray area for me. Are they all interchangeable?
Can you identify mine from the picture?
Is this pump still available or is there a newer better pump that will bolt right in?
Thank you for your time.
Ray

Do you have some sort of debris in the hydraulic fluid? That is the only reason I could think of for jamming up. You are using 5W-30 motor oil or Dextron ATF, right?

Boy I doubt you will find replacement parts or newer pump components for that assembly. They were probably not avail, when the motor was new.

I would drain all the fluid out of the trim cylinders, pump and reservoir and hydraulic lines, clean the pump and reservoir and refill everything with fresh 5W-30 motor oil.

You might be able to get a used one off of craigs list.
They were used on outboards and stern drives.

If you get one from a stern drive you will have to swap out the manifold plate and control valve from yours I think.
