Help identifying v4 johnson

The tag on the transom bracket is gone. Previous owner says its 140hp

Actually someone told me its got 140hp carbs on it and bubble back exhaust on it But the hood says 115 so I dont know what it is and I dont know the year. That's what I'm mainly trying to figure out is year and if its a 115 with upgrades or if its a 140 with 115 decals, i think its 90 degrees cross flow. The cylinders are off set one bank is higher then opposite bank.

It is certainly a 90* V4 motor. Does it have removeable transfer port covers? If so, it is a crossflow. If not, it may be a looper.

You could search on the block part number. If no action on the web, you could look on crowleymarine at special V4 engines for a match on the block part number. Special motors do not have oil injection, so that can narrow it down a bit.

I am not an expert, but it does not look like a bubbleback exhaust. Someone here will know for sure, I would think.

It is a crossflow.---It has bypass covers.----It has VRO.-----I doubt the powerhead is original to the motor.

it does have a bubble back exhaust, it does have VRO, but, been premixing it. the max advance says 28 degree i think its 1984 115, but i aint sure is there any numbers i can look at and use somewhere other then p/n?

A 1984 140 would have the Bubble Back Tuner, a 1984 115 would have a Flat Exhaust Cover, a post 84 115(prop Rated) would have a Bubble Back Exhaust Tuner. It very might very well have the same Carbs as the pre 85 140(crank rated). Being that it has a VRO places it post 83.
Odd that the Block has no White Paint on it, and the Heads are peeling either White or Gray

A 1984 model 115 HP did not come with the bubble ( tuned ) exhaust.

The model plate is missing and its been painted, someone may have painted the whole thing and put new decals on it the paint in uniform through out the exterior of it.

Looking at the Pics again, the motor has had at the least the Heads off, as the Gaskets don't have any Paint on them.
In the one pic, where the Convex Disc with the Serial Number would be, somebody stamped 020 06 07. I will guess that might mean 0.020 Overbore, and June 07
The Decals on the Cowl are from the 90s, on top of another Decal.
Being that it has the Bubble Back Tuner and VRO, I would say it is likely a 1984 140, or a post 84 110, 112, 115.

I won't even brush the possibility of a pre 85 115hp, even a 90 hp, being Hopped Up into a 140.

Would all the fuel line be 3/8 if its 140? Currently all the fuel line on it are 5/16

I recall that the 3/8" Line was introduced for the V6s back in late 75. The V6 Engines were 50% larger than the V4s. Looking at the Parts Lists, the Crossflow V4s all used 5/16" Hoses/Lines
