Hello everyone.
I?ve spent hours reading this forum and found lots of good information.
I bought this boat a few months ago. Motor runs well although I believe it was piece together from parts.
I?m in the process of trying to find/validate the model and year if anyone can help.
I know the power head is a rebuild.. Either in 1999 or a 1999.. not sure.
I believe it to be a 225. It might be an HO. How to I tell the difference between a 200 block and a 225 and the HO version?
I believe the cowling to be the vindicator series.
I believe the lower unit to be an O series.
Yes at some point the whole thing got painted white and the bracket numbers got painted over. The only numbers I can find are in an attached pic.
I?m looking to purchase a shop manual but want to make sure I get the right one.

Hit that dimple between the two top cylinders with some paint remover. It is an aluminum plate the size of a quarter that has the HP and model # for your engine. I have an 89 225 Rude as well.

That a 1998-99 closed deck block. It has the small exhaust hump for clearance on ECM on a FFI motor and casting on exhaust for pop off valve. The 200 and 225 are the same identical motors the only thing different is carbs. The 225 HO is the same block and 225 carbs also except the exhaust ports is raised and jetting size is different. The midsection/clamp bracket is from a 1987-90 model as it has the old style trim, the 98-99 would have the fastrac trim. It also has the old style splash pans and cowling with new late 90's decals. I am going to guess it a 89-90 model section as if you install a late model powerhead on a 86-87 mid they will leak water around the front bolt area due to casting difference in exhaust plates.

do you mean below what I assume is a frost plug?
there is a small I'll call "clock face" with an arrow pointing towards 7.
there is a backwards J at 12 oclock and a H or Z at 9 oclock.
I do not see a plate on what I blieve to be the upper exhaust manifold? or do you mean IT is aluminum?

The 200/225 loopers don't have that plug on the top of the block like a crossflow. It's in a recess on the back of the block.
