Help me figure my rig's weight...

Okay, I'm trailering my new boat back from NC in a couple of weeks and want to make sure my Highlander can handle her (3000 tow capacity)...

Key Largo 186 = 1550 lbs
Yamaha 90 2-stroke = 245 lbs
Load-Rite Trailer = 700 lbs ??? (Can't find any specs)
Bimini = 70lbs
Minn Kota troller = 60 lbs
Misc = 100 lbs (no PDFs, equipment, etc.)

Total Load = 2625 lbs
Coming in under the capacity = Priceless

Am I forgetting anything?

If you have the highlander with the v-6 the only thing you left out is fuel. You should be fine.

From NC to VA I would make sure you carry a grease gun and make sure the bearings are okay for the trip.

Take an extra tie down strap or two......

Maybe an air pressure gauge......

Check the trailer tires too

The Highlander will handle it fine just remember your stopping distance will be greatly increased.

For preventitive maintainence, if you have 50,000 Miles plus on the Highlander, i would have the automatic tranny fluid exchaged---almost any shop will have the exchange machine--about $150---even jiffy lube does it.

just a thought. I do mine every 40k.

NC to Key Largo is pretty flat. You should be OK.

my 20ft load rite trailer (fits my 18ft sea ray) weigh's in at 830 with no brakes. just thought id let you know have a safe trip

the highlander wont do. You need a f350 diesel with extra rocket boosters to make the trip safely ... Just kidding man, Im sure it'll be fine. Have a safe trip, and bring at least one spare tire!

Someone will probably chime in about not using more than 70% of the vehicles rated capacity. Thats nonsense. If you're under 3000lbs you're good to go.

If you have a scale locally maybe see about getting the rig weighed though...

You should be fine. Accelerate gently whenever possible and don't overwork the torque converter in overdrive. Drop it into regular drive if necessary. I never use overdrive in our Jimmy when towing even though the manual says it is O.K. for our load.

Add some weight. They always seem to weigh more than the specs state.

Estimates are good but usually not as close as you think. Get it weighed with all your gear in it and a full gas tank then you will know.
