The motor is a '72 Mercury 1400.

It appears to be a mercury switch part number is 58124 (this is a guess, it's the only thing written on the part. It appeared to have been cut, and I don't know if it needs to be replaced. I haven't been able to locate a replacement part or any reference to this part.

Also I can't seem to find a replacement distributor cap for this motor. The part number is 393-4841

I better look my self befor sending you else where.
the numbers on the parts are the part #
good luck

I've found some more information on the switch. It's a mercury switch. What does it do? Why would someone have cut the wire? Is it needed?the part is 58124A4 as listed above.

Do a search for Clams Canino on ebay. He has good used parts and a huge inventory. It might be preferable to the sticker shock of buying new.

Re: help me find a part...

mercury switch kills the motor if you tilt it up too high airing out the water intakes. Don't really need it.
