Re: help me identify my outdrive

I was worried the hose wouldn't supply enough water.

The hose is fine for that. don't over rev in nuetral keep rpms under 2000 for short peroids of time and you'll be safe. Idle all day if you want. You could still run it without the upper in a tub but you don't want to get water in the outdrive. Muffs are cleaner and easier. Buy a small shutoff valve to put on the muffs to control the flow and plug the hole on the bottom of the outdrive. If you have high water pressure, open it half way, then once the engines running open it the rest of the way.

You said to pull the gear box before running. Is that just to make sure the dipstick isn't in there ,or are you refering to look for something else?

Of course look for the dipstick, but also to see the condition of the interior parts. It's a no brainer, got to be done. I'm not sure where the dipstick could have fallen down to. If it did fall off which seems very strange. It isn't a flimsy peice of metal. Its 6 to 8 inches long (never measured).

Dist., starter, alternator, fuel pump, must be marine for safety purposes!! It's like wearing your seat belt.

There isn't really a tube, the vertical shaft on the upper gear box is hollow. The dipstick can only fall down to the vertical shaft of the lower unit. Can't hurt a thing.

TY Don your right it is just sittin in there.I will have to try and get it out of there. The bearing on top of the drive looks real good.No corrosion or anything even from sitting for so long.
I hope to get to work on it again by tuesday.

Yeah I plan to get the fluids changed, and then clean the fuel tank.I will then be working a few wiring issues and then get her running.
