I Have A 150 Evinrude 18 Ft Center Console With A 23 Pitch Stainless Steal Prop Im Going About 4200 Rpms Is Almost Max Maybe 4500 And Im Only Going Maybe 30 Mph If Im Lucky What Do U Think I Should Do
What I think you should do are as follows:
1) make sure the engine is running correctly (as in tune-up) if not done recently
2) Verify that the tach is correct (calibration set to 6P)
3) Use an accurate speedomter
4) Make sure the boat is not full of water soaked foam.
5) Make sure the hull is clean (a grungy hull drags off lots of speed)
All of these things are mentioned because you obviously have something wrong with the boat in terms of RPM vs SPEED. A prop calculator shows a 23P prop should be pushing the boat at something over 40 MPH at 4200. The engine may not be running on all cylinders. I know -- you'll say "but it runs perfect". Many people have no idea what an engine with one dead cylinder sounds like. Boat speedometers are very inaccurate at slow speeds. Use GPS if available to check speed.
ok gps speed is at about 30 with one or two people on it also boat is clean and no soaking on it,also compression check on all holes they all read about 90 and the engine is a 1998 it is old what else should i do
