help me read this prop code?

i need to replace prop on my 97 cierra 2355 , 5.7 mercruiser 260 hp. i pulled the prop and have this stamp:

48-78114-13

my thoughts are:

48-781 is a part number

14 is diameter

13 is the pitch.

prop was brittle when i got it so im not sure this prop size will fit my application anyway, but i do need a starting point. if im wrong, does anyone know what prop this is? thanks.

I don't know much about it but it is a Merc prop
You can measure the diameter from the center of the bore to the tip of a blade and double.
No doubt somewone will be along to help with the application.

yea, in fact after i posted this i measured the radius, and it is 7.5. so guess im wrong about diameter, but perhaps the pitch is 13. there is also an L stamped on it. does this mean its left hand rotation? ive never paid attention

Standard rotation is clockwise standing behind the boat. If the L is indeed lefthand rotation it will rotate counter clockwise.

It's a Quicksilver/Mercury Black Max 16 X 13 aluminum. Still in production.

thanks leardriver. are you sure about this though? when i search that prop i get part number 48-7811A40, mine is 48-78114-13, and when i measure radius i get 7.5 inches


assuming you are correct, and it is 16x13. what can i expect out of a change to 15x15 . its a mid cruiser so speed is not real important, but heavy load is.

48-78118-a40-17p prop so IT's 14.5" X 17Pitch running on 130hp MERCURISER UNLESS YOURS IS GEARED HIGHER IT SEEMS TO SMALL HECK READ 5.0 DECK BOAT W/19 PITCHS SPEED
