Ok, here are the basics first. Don't remember exact SN# but starts with 622 which makes it an 82. According to original owner less than 300 hours on motor. Looks like brand new inside and out. 90hp purchased this winter with no chance to run it. Good compression 120 across the board cold, 150 when warm. Carbs and fuel pump just rebuilt last week. Spark on all cylinders although no spark tester has been used yet to test the strength of spark. New carb and fuel pump kits installed but carbs and fuel pump looked like brand new, no gunk, no clogs, no holes in fuel pump diaphragm. Brand new gas, clean tank, and brand new hose. Freshly charged batteries.
Motor is hard to start cold, which is apparently quite common. When started at high idle, it will start and rev,run ok. By ok I mean smooth, no chugging or popping. But as the rpms are lowered, the motor will start to chug and pop, blow puffs of smoke out the exhaust and will not run smoothly at all. I'm curious if I need to have the electrical system checked, stator, trigger and so on, or with a dva adapter and a good multimeter is it easy enough for someone mechanical to check those items himself. And 2nd for anyone that has had this testing done, what is a fair price range for a shop to do it. Appreciate any help at all on the matter.
