Last year, bought a used Mercruiser 3.0 (140) and had it installed. Always been curious what year it was made.

I located the engine serial number, M339757 (tag near the starter) and have looked UP AND DOWN, and at every link which I could find, but have not been able to find out year of manuf.

Thinking I may have missed a letter or a number, I double, triple, quadruple checked ( even photographed) the metal tag.... It sure says "M339757"

I know it is a 3.0 (or 140), that it has a Mercarb (rebuilt it recently), and the Delco electronic ignition ( not sure if it is original or added as a kit).

On one hand, I'm thinking it is pretty old ( judging by the serial number), on the other hand, the Delco ignition and Mercarb makes me think perhaps not...

Any help identifying this would be most appreciated.

Try with a 0 (zero) in front. 0M339757.

looks like 2002....

It would probably be right around a 1998-1999 motor. I believe 1998 were in the OLXXXXXX serial range. Yours is most likely a OM339757, not a M339757. Everything I checked just has it come up as a 1998 or newer motor. An educated guess would be a 1999 motor. They did have the Delco alternators on the 1998 and newer motors. Hope this helps a bit. Try doing some more research using your serial number with a O in front of it. Good Luck!!
