HELP! Mercury Black Max Trim Wires melted

I have an 86 Mercury Black Max XR2 150hp motor.
Last night we got a ton of rain. I went out to check the boat because during heavy rain sometimes there will be a puddle of water that accumulates on the cover. I instantly smelled a strong smell of burned electronics/wire. I traced it to the boat. Then i realized what had happened.

There was a large amount of water that pooled on the cover pulling it toward the middle of the boat, when that happened it pulled the rear trim switch in the up position. It must have just kept the solenoid engaged and drew lots of amps until something gave away. At first i figured it may just need some new wiring and maybe a new solenoid, but under further inspection this morning i noticed the wires melted all the way to the trim hydraulic pump. I can't imagine what damage it has done to the trim system. I think there should have been some kind of fail safe in the loop. Maybe a previous owner redid some wiring and cut out that pesky fuse...

This really sucks for me because I just bought this boat and was waiting for this week to do some fiberglass repair. now I need to fix this first, and I'm guessing with my luck its going to be bad. I just wanna get on the water with it!

My question is, What should my plan of repair be, whats the first thing I should do?

I'm not expert but I would guess you will have to remove the pump in order to remove and install old/new wiring harness.

I am in the process of trying to remove my pump now too, should be an interesting project.

It looks that way, Ill have to double check with my serial number, but it looks like a new pump will cost $180.00 on eBay

I saw it had a couple automotive relays and a fuse hanging off of the new assembly.

Have you had any luck yet? I have been so busy I haven't had time to fool with it.
