Thats a a Hi-po motor and needs a bunch of cooling. A one piece adapter plate under powerhead has dump holes drilled in it and also allows water to flow to both sides of the poppet channels rendering useless. With a one-piece plate thermostats will not affect the running temp much. I am thinking you have the 260 hp Hi-po and you need to turn that motor around 6500rpm for proper cooling.
