Well I took my boat out today pulled the rope to start her up and the rope did not go back in the moter. So I opened it up and thing the rope attaches to that the parts catalog I got with the motor calls a starter spool had broken in half. It is a Montgomry Ward sea king 10hp model vwb-52110. Would anybody be able to help me find out where I could find one of these. It is only the second time out on my new very much loved boat and because I have spent more money then my wife "really" wanted me too she is now a little upset that in her opinion I spent money on garbage. I am hopeing that I can even find one being that it is a 1975 motor ( I think) Any info will be much apretiated.

Hi, Mike.

There are a number of places that specialize in used parts for older engines. Here's one.

www.tcoutboard.com

Good luck. :)

Napa does carry parts for various motors, wether or not they carry parts for an old montgomery is another questions. Best thing to do is just ask them

This won't help you fix your pull starter, but many motors do have provisions for using an old-fashion pull rope when the recoil starter fails, thereby preventing you from being stuck somewhere when the rope or spring breaks. Remove your recoil starter unit and see if there is a place on the flywheel designed to accept a pull rope. Hope your motor has one and that you can take your wife for a boat ride in the meantime till you get the recoil starter fixed. Old motors are not garbage even though they may act that way sometimes. Best wishes.

Re: Help......Motor problems :(

Hey thanx for the advise....The top of the flywheel does have a place where I can wrap rope and start. Thats how I got back. It is just a pain to have to take cover off everytime I want to start it and it doesn't seem to safe to run with it open. It is a little fishing boat and wife dont fish but I am working on this. And I know some people look at my boat and motor and laugh but I tell you what ...The amount of joy I get out in her is hard to compare to anything else I have done for recreation. So even though she's "garbage" I love her. ( by the way Im talking about the boat there not the wife) :)
The wife loves me so shes cool just likes to keep my spending down to a small fortune.
