Also-ISN'T 5200 For PERMANENT installations??? Wouldn't 3M's other sealer(4500??) be better???

Should he re-seal the lower bolts, or just the uppers because they have to be removed???
Thanks

Bottom bolts are more likely to leak water due to the fact they are under water when off plane.....seal them good.

5200 5300 4300 ??

Yes I suppose the non permanent sealant would be a better choice, as long as its approved for below water/marine use.

I can't get any of them near me, so I've been using something else, won't recommend it to anyone else but its working for me.

You don't want to use 5200 for anything that may ever want to come apart. It's used to do things like bond decks to hulls!

butteco another point to mention if you are raising the motor is to be sure and use nylon locking nuts when reinstalling the transom bolts. Many DIYers just put on regular hex nuts with lock washers. In critical applications like this you really don't want the nuts vibrating loose over time.

I also agree with the posts above that the motor is mounted too low. The fin must be on top of the water once on plane. Changing the trim angle of the motor won't help if the fin is submerged at planing speeds. May even affect steering control.

Raising the motor 1" alone can result in close to 3 mph top speed. It could also result in ventilation problems but I dont know of any other way to find the ideal height.
