Hi,

1988 searay mercruiser V6 175 hp. 262 c.i. Ser.# c320958

I noticed my microswitch for shifting is not hooked up but see nowhere that is does hook up. Does anyone have a pic of or know where the wires go? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

Thanks,

Bob

Re: HELP my microswitch is disconnected

are you talking about the neutral safety switch or the shift interrupt switch?

Re: HELP my microswitch is disconnected

I wish I knew the difference. It is the only switch that is at the linkage where both cables meet and is depressed between forward and reverse. It has two wires and they are short, meaning a couple inches and I do not see where they would connect to anything close.........

Thanks

Re: HELP my microswitch is disconnected

sounds like the shift interupt switch. Because the otherone is in the shifter housing itself
in a nutshell. 2 wires come out of that interupt switch. 1 goes to ground, and the other goes to the ignition coil positive.

Re: HELP my microswitch is disconnected

Thanks,

Both wires are no longer than 3 inches and have eyelet stacon connectors on them. I suppose I will run more wire. I just wonder why they are not long enough in the first place and why they were unhooked. I was looking at it closely and noticed they were unhooked and couldnt see where they would go. I put the tester to the switch and it shows it is good. I appreciate the help.

There should be a small plastic connector block within the reach of those wires one to ground one to coil.

The other wire from the switch has to go to the negative post of the coil to ground it out.

Just to be clear - one wire goes to ground, the other to the NEGATIVE side of the coil.

Actually, I might need to retract what I wrote above. I was thinking of points style ignition. I believe things are different with the electronic ignition. You might wait for a few others to chime in.
