Greetings, long time no post! At work we had a bit of a crackdown on internet useage, which I anticipated in time to withdraw cold turkey. Couple people in my department lost their jobs over it. Why no posts at all? Frankly, I had to make a complete break; found I couldn't participate in threads just at lunchtime, or from home, and leave 'em alone the rest of the day.

So, like the typical "friend in need", here I am, asking for help. It's a bit of a "special" mother's day, in that just a couple weeks ago we finally finalized the adoption of our 15-year-old daughter, whom we've been raising since she was eight.

When she, the wife, mentioned something couple weeks ago about how this years mothers day ought to be "something special", I suggested she prepare a list.............guess how that went over...........

So how bout it...budget of, say, couple hundred...maybe three...and BTW she don't share my love of boating.........any ideas?

Oh, on a completely unrelated note, just thought I'd share...the foundation repair crew just left after four days, now my bedroom has a big hole in the floor waiting on a plumber and there's a ton of dirt under a tarp killing half my lawn, but hey, all the doors close now, that's something.

jtexas, glad to see you are back. Know what you mean about the construction. My foundation drains collapsed and sucked all the dirt out from under my 46ft front porch. Dug up and replaced the drains, poured 6 yards of concrete and put up new pillars with white plastic fencing between them. 2600.00 with me doing the labor. Only 120.00 of that was beer.
Would like to help you with the Mother's Day dilemma but having the same problem myself. How about a professional photo/portrait of the whole "new" family together?

If your house is torn apart the best thing you could do would be a killer dinner saturday night followed by an overnight stay at a top notch hotel,or bed and breakfast, followed by room service breakfast the next morning and then a family getaway day on sunday.

How 'bout, she and daughter have a "Ladies Day". You know - hair, manicure, pedicure, and massage. While that is going on, it is a great time for you to be fishing!

Okay, scratch the last part and prepare a delicious meal for them at home.

I like extra's idea of the Mother's ring. It will be a keepsake that means alot for years to come.

Since I am in Ghana and the mother of my children is in the states, it is a little hard to do anything "special." Have flowers and a couple small surprises for her - the best is a friend took the 5 year old shopping yesterday on my dime - not sure what that is gonna be yet! Yikes! Anyway, my Mother's Day thinker isn't working too good cause it doesn't have to. :D

Re: HELP!! Need Mothers Day Ideas

wow iboats is slow today

breakfast in bed is good, here is something special for that someone special.

syrup
1/4 cup crushed pecans
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water

Toaste pecans in a small pot (I use stainless steel), careful not to burn them! Add sugar and water, bring to a boil stiring now and then, set to the side.

Pancake
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoons baking powder (I use Rumford aluminum free)
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use canning salt, it's cleaner)
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk (more or less depending on how thick you want them)

Mix dry ingredeants, the add wet ingreadeants, stir just enuf (see its not a copy and paste
wink.gif
) to mix, there may be small lumps its ok.

2 bannanas sliced about 3/16 thick.
(pecans may be added)
Butter (not the fake stuff use real butter!!!)

Assembly
The cakes should be cooked on medium to medium high heat (depends on your stove) on a cast iron gridle. Heat the gridle up good then butter it, I use a laddle and pour one scoop onto the hot gridle, place a pat of butter in the center and arange bannana slices around on the top of the cake (reserve a few slices for garnish) (if using pecans or chocolate chips put them into the cake now also) cook until golden brown (or to desired doneness) then flip and cook golden brown (or you know) place cake on heated plate (do not heat plastic plates
wink.gif
) arange fresh bannana slices over the top and serve with warm pecan syrup.

Serves 2

The ladle I use makes 3 cakes from this, enjoy ya'll, also chocolate chips is good in the cakes
