Help!!! Need year and size of older evinrude motor

Bought this motor today with a boat for cheap need to know the size and the year of the motor. on the tag it says 15038B could someone please help me to determine the year and size of this motor any help is greatly appreciated thanks

Doesn't seem to be a valid model number.

a 15037 is a 18hp e-rude from 62 ,thats the closest i could remotely come to your number.got a picture?

its a evinrude....and i seen the 15037 in a 62 size 18 but my serial number tag says 15038B? an no sorry no picture i dont have a digital camera or anything...

Where, on the motor, is the tag you're looking at? Does the motor have a core plug on the top aft part of the block with numbers stamped on it?

i dont know much about motors but its on the side that mounts by the transom of the boat thats where im getting the numbers

Are you sure the 8 isn't also a 3? 15033 is a 1960 18hp.:redface:

Evinrudes had the number stampped into a quarter sized plug on top of the engine.

BTW, the data plate mounted on the mounting bracket should have a serial number and a model number. The number you provided as a model may have been misread. Look at it again carefully.

ok so i figured it out...sorry guys i misread it its a 15036 which i believe makes it a 1962 hp so thanks to all for your help its greatly appreciated
