Well the Lawn Boy part of the Lawn Boy mower was fine, it was the POS engine on it that sucked me pocketbook dry.

There isn't anything wrong with a Tecumseh that a Briggs and Straton wont fix:D

well i believe the only thing left to do is to find an old fashioned lawn mower race in your area and run it till it blows up.

Years ago, my father-in-law was about to throw out a fairly new Snapper mower. He only had it a few yrs. since it was new, upon closer examination it had almost no compression, it was worn out!? I found out the reason was, he had Zoysia grass in his whole back yard, and in case anyone don't know, that stuff grows like wildfire once it takes root, and it almost is like trying to cut steel wool, no wonder it was worn out!,,,lol. I told him I'd rebuild the motor for him, but he wanted a new self propelled rear bag 2cycle Lawnboy, and gave me the mower. The Snapper was a side discharge to rear bagger push mower, but it had an aluminum deck, and motor, figuring it was in decent shape, & not a cheap mower, I rebuilt the old 3.5hp Briggs & Stratton motor, and got a few more years out of it on my old non Zoysia lawn, until I upgraded myself to a new better lawn mower.

I like this idea... Even though it's not really an idea.

I picked up a Yard-Man pusher with a B&S engine on it from a garage sale for $25.00. Changed the air filter and now it starts on the first pull every time. Been running for the last 3 years.

Re: Help needed with a knocking lawnmower...

I have never purchased a lawn mower. I've sold a few but never bought one.

People abuse those things to no end. Ask the average guy when the last time was he changed the oil? Watch his eyes glaze over. Unless it's a Honda. That's a cultural and generational thing. My BIL bought a Honda and services it regularly. I asked him why he did not and does not service his other stuff and he had no answer-duh!

Tecumseh, B & S, it doesn't matter. They will run forever even with haphazard care.

My current mower is a Troy Bilt self propelled with a 6.5 B & S. It was on the side of the road, as described. All I did was put oil in it, sharpen the blade, add gas and change the air filter. Abra cadabra, out pops a mower that has been running for three years now.

Go figure.

I used to get every 3.5 briggs lawn mower I would see on the curve. Wasnt long before I had about 5 good running mowers and started giving them away. I prefer the 3.5 to the other briggs (5.o is junk) and dont like the tuscumski engines at all. I also dont like the overhead valve single cylinder briggs 14/16 hp.I think the 3.5 briggs is the best lawn mower engine ever made.

The only mower I bought new had a Tecumseh on it, did not last 30 days. The wife (now X) was mowing, there was nothing to hit, and yet the crank bent! Tecumseh said no warrenty, I'll never own another Tecumseh, period ever! And now that MTD owns B&S they'll probly be junk:confused::confused::confused:
