Hi, I have a 1991 70 Evinrude with surface mount controls. The red tilt/trim switch located in the control handle is loose. I do not know if the switch is broken or whatever holds the switch in place in the handle is broken? But the top half of the switch falls further into the handle when pushed, not allowing contact to be made to tilt motor up. The bottom half of switch sticks out more and works OK. So I stuck a wire-tie in behind top of switch and it pushes switch a bit out of handle, and it will now work.
I would like to fix or replace the switch, but again I do not know if the switch is broken or whatever retains the switch in the handle is? I may need a new handle?
But, how do I remove/open the handle to get access to the switch? I see no bolts on the outside? Does one have to fully open up the control box just to replace the trim switch? Another post said there was a set-screw on the handle, but I do not see one on mine? All help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, CC
