1988 28-HP SPL. The motor was running hot so I put the controls in neutral and dropped the lower end and pulled the water pump and replaced the impeller. Then I got smart and got myself a Johnson service manual. What I learned (from the manual) was not to drop the lower unit while the gear case is in neutral (needs to be in reverse?), and do not remove both of the lower shift connector screws, of which I did, stripping them out and then needing to re-tap the threads.
P.S.> This is at the case side shift not the remote control (unhooked for test)
So is a there way out of this ditch or do I keep paddling away from the ramp?
