HELP!! new printer!!

I have just about decided to buy either a Cannon i850, i560, or i860. The i560, and i860 seems to be new models, that use a different ink tank/tanks than the i850. In a couple of internet sights, while researching the cannons, I have seen a toner mentioned in speaking of the i850, but can find no toner cartridge for them. is this a mistake in the pages I researched, or is a toner cartridge needed in adition to the four ink tanks in the i850. The i560, and i860 uses the new (6) series of ink tanks, in place of the old (3) series, and cost a small bit more, and only get 280 pages @ 5% coverage, compared to 340 pages @ 5% coverage for the old (3) series (the i860 uses five ink tanks, using one of the old (3) series black, which is a double size tank, along with a (6) series smaller black tank, for a total of five tanks, whereas the i850, and i560 uses four ink tanks). Does "ANYONE" have a reason why I should not   , and which one do you reccomend. I am fed up with the old compaq, and the xzerox quit feeding paper, before I used up one ink cartridge. I would like to thank you all in advance, for any and all responce, that I get on this proposed transaction. Printers are the biggest problems of the computer age. I have more old printers, that are no longer compatible with modern software/hardware, and many old unused printer ribbons laying around.

If you don't need color, nothing beats a laser printer. They're under $200 now. Toner cartridges last forever compared to ink.

I agree on a laser, they have never been cheaper or better. If you have a spare 600-800 $ you can get color laser. Given the high price of multiple color ink ket cartridges and short life I went laser 6 years ago, believe it or not I'm still using the original HP LaserJet 5L drum and I do a lot of printing. When I need color I go to Staples and pay for the few pages I need. The manufacturers of ink jets should give away the printers and make it up on the ink. Just My 2 Cents Worth, ;)

Re: HELP!! new printer!!

Thanks for the info fellas, and I may at a later date add a laser, but as most of my printing requires no color, there is times that I want it. Would appreciate your opinions on the questions that are bothering me at this time, as my mind is made up on one of the three, unless I get bad info on these items, and still would like advise as to which would be the best, if anyone has experience with them. Thanks!! :D :D

Re: HELP!! new printer!!

This is my field for this is what I do all day long.. Heres some food for though... Do you NEED to print color? and If you DO. the 3 ink is good enough. or, do you want to print Photos? The 3 ink systems are great for printing just normal color stuff.. the 5 ink are great for printing photos or High Res Images. mOre DPI the better. Laser Printers are great as far as cost per copy. now a color laser printer? WOW what fun!! Ohh and dont buy Cannon. go with HP.

Hey jgregory, I have a lexmark (compaq), and that is what I am trying to get away from. It would not be economical, if they paid you to take one, at the cost of their cartridges.<br /><br />Would appreciate my original questions answered. :D :D

HPs are Cannon's in disguise. Both laser and inkjet. they have different functions, but the engine is made by Cannon.<br /><br />With an injet, you get a cheap printer and they make their money in ink cartridges. If you don't print in color every day or so, then the cartridge nozzles get clogged and you get abd print. You can go through the cleaning cycle, but it uses a ton of ink. <br /><br />Toner cartridges are expensive, but have a better life especially if you don't print very often. Color lasers are nice, but expensive up front. I wpould still go with an HP laser. Inkjets, the HP and the Epson are both relatively good. IF you actually look at the price of the cartriges over the years, the Color Laser probably is the better deal than the inkjet but you spend more money out of pocker in the beginning. They also can be repaired, where injects are throw away because the repair costs are greater than the cost of a new printer.
