Help no spark on my merc 500

I need some help i have no spark on any of my spark plug wires, it ran fine last year but i did hook the battery up backwards :facepalm: i didnt know if i broke somthing doing that or if it is just getting old, the engine is a 1967 merc 500 50hp 4 cylinder. all help is much appriciated

You did not say if the engine was a magneto system or Thunderbolt,

o ya sorry it is a thunderbolt system. the rectifier and switchbox? there is the box with 2 yellow wires and a red wire coming out of it then there is the bigger box next to it or is it the red box with the main wire going to the distributer. it cranks fine and the choke solenoid works

ok finally got around to testing it. the brown trigger wire only has 3 volts and i have no volts going to the coil so according to the paper its a bad trigger does that sound right?

ok so i took the front piece off and this is what i found truck pics 010.jpg do you think this is my problem

ok what about a distributor cap i couldnt find one of those on here but i might not be looking in the right spot

The cap you need has been NLA for years clean yours with dish soap and hot water then replace the center carbon.

Lord, I've repaired hundreds of those things. Glad they have new ones now.

Replace your battery too as battery type is critical in battery-driven ignitions. Stay away from Automotive & Supermarket store brands, deep cycles & maintenance-frees.
