i am trying to remove a shift bushing and o ring from where the shift lever slides through. I am reading this shop manual calling for a special tapered punch required to remove the bushing from the lower unit housing.. Anyone know where i can get one of these or what a substitute is?
1960 40hp

Hi CindyTim,
Get yourself an 8"-10" nail with a shank smaller than the inside diameter of the bushing. Grind down the head of the nail so that it just clearances the casting of the lower unit, but not the bushing. The ID of the bushing is slightly smaller than the hole in the lower unit casting. Drive the bushing out from the under side and dig out the old o-ring.
- Scott
