Another one that I just learn is springers.
What is a springer?

If you don't know how old your u-joint bellows are and your impeller are, I would be replacing both of them.

Sent you a PM.

Re: Help-OMC 5.0 Gear Oil dipstick screw stuck

Thanks everyone for helping, I finally changed the gear oil. I took the top lid (oil dipstick) to the local Marine store and they charged me $5.00 to loose the screw.

I also bought the nylon washers so I am good to go. I put two quarts and I can see that I am not at risk of an air bubble (check level)

.
Tomorrow, I will take it slow in the lake for a easy cruise/fishing, and before the season starts I will get to the bellows and U joints..(thanks Bruce58!).

Well, I thinks that's it for now. I am working on the write-up...

Happy Boating!

Did you fill from the middle hole?

Yes confirm to us you filled from the middle plug? It probably is tempting just to dump 2 qt s. in the top but you will be sorry, just trying to Save you headache. It also looks like your level might have been on the high side in your first pics with cover removed, I like where it is now with new fluid, did you verify level with the dipstick? I read in a post here that you just catch 1 thread or lay on top with dipstick and check level there? Although you have the spec for fluid amount. Update us on your wet run!

..............
I'm gonna guess that someone saw/heard that the OP had an OMC and suggested or asked if it was a "stringer"?

A cordless impact drill/driver with a large slot bit would have released that screw easily.

Yeap, I filled from the middle hole. Just as I learned on this forum OMC Cobra requirements.

All they said is that they used a "special tool."

No, that wasn't the case. I told Bruce58 that I have learned and added a few words in my vocabulary such "bellows" and "stringers" while searching for answers. He expanded on the topic because I didn't know what bellows and stringers were...
