Help-Part number for Fuel Pump 89 Bayliner

Hi,

I am trying to order the correct fuel pump but there are many choices (Chris-Craft, Mallory, Sierra, etc). I haven't been able to get the part because I am missing the part number. I searched through the manual and cannot find the cross-reference part number...(yeah, I am not very smart thou), and I am respectfully requesting your help. This is what I have:

89 Bayliner, Capri 1950 in/outboard, open Bow
V8 Cobra GMC
I do not know if is a 302 or 305 for this model (so, please help me with this too).
Basically what I would like to know is:
Is this engine a 302, 305 or 350?
How many horse power?
Waht economy fuel pump can I buy?
What is the part number?

The model number you took the picture of may be for the drive, not the engine.
Clearly not a 302 which would be a Ford, you have a small block Chevy on your hands.
If it's truly an '89 engine, it's most likely a 350/5.7L (the 5.0L offered in '89 was Ford only). If the engine was a left-over from '88 it's possible it could be a 5.0L/305 Chevy.

Regardless....
Both the 5.0L and 5.7L Chevys use the same fuel pump.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. The OMC manual shows that the 4.3 and 5.7 engines placed the fuel pump in the same (starboard) side as in my boat's engine.The 5.0 shown in the manual shows the fuel pump in the opposite side (Port side). That is why I got confused. The manual is probably showing a picture of the true 89 Ford 302 that came with in with the rest of the Bayliners. I guess my boat is an odd boat or one of the previous owners replaced the engine.

So, I am glad that you responded so quickly, so I can order the part to launch the boat before summer is over. My kids and I start school next Monday and we hardly used the boat this season. Thanks and last question: If my engine is a leftover 88 placed in an 89 hull with a Chevy 302 how many horse power?

And if it is a 5.7 Chevy 350 how many horse power?

I forgot, GM is stamped behind the Rochester Carburator but in the top of the engine in the cast metal.

The manual is probably showing a picture of the true 89 Ford 302 that came with in with the rest of the Bayliners. I guess my boat is an odd boat or one of the previous owners replaced the engine.

First off, what manual are you using? I'm guessing it's Clymer or Seloc (which can be vague, confusing, and sometimes down right wrong). If that's what you have, you might want to find your self a factory manual for your engine (will need to find the correct engine model number for this).

Secondly, Bayliner could have installed either flavor (Ford or Chevy) engine in their boats to offer their customers choices. I doubt your engine was replaced, as it's not as simple as just unbolting the Ford, and bolting the Chevy in it's place (drive parts would need to be changed to make this work).

If it was a left-over engine from '88, it could still be a Chevy 350, or a Chevy 305 (Chevy made a 302 back in the late 60's for the Camaro, but none after that). Both a Chevy 305, and Ford 302 are considered a 5.0L displacement engine.

Looks like your engine has a 2 barrel carb. I THINK the 2bbl 305 was good for 190hp, and the 2bbl 350 was good for 230hp. An OMC Guru may be able to confirm that, or set the record straight.

If you can locate your engine model number, you will be able to find out if your engine is a 5.0L/305, or a 5.7L/350.
Model number for an '88 305 would begin with "502" or "504". Model number for an '88 350 would begin with "574". Model number for an '89 350 would begin with "350" or "574".

I have the hard copy of Seloc and a friend's electronic copy of ??? (I want to believe is an OMC factory). It is missing a few pages and the cover so I cannot tell. However, I cross-referenced both.
Unfortunately, the plate by the T stat housing is not there, so I need to look in another place to locate another identifier for the engine model number.

But, you gave me enough and valuable information to get the fuel pump replaced....thanks my friend.

Pap,
If you want to know what you have (305/350) there is information cast into the block that can tell you.

Facing the engine, on the right side in the back where the block meets the intermediate housing for the drive, typically the displacement is cast on the block in liters. It would in the area of number 3 in this picture;


You will see the GM logo, and next to that it will either say "5.0LG" or "5.7LG". Further to the right of that (if you were facing the engine from the back) there should be a 4 digit date code beginning with a letter. Give me that date code (or take a picture of the area and post it), and I can tell you the date the block was cast.

Right on the money! It says 5.0L with a number I107 (cannot see it clearly). But everything else indicates is a 5.7 including the location of the fuel pump (starboard side).

5.7 it is then with 225 hp.
