Just ripped up the wooden deck. glassing it now. Need new carpet. I know nothing really about carpet.
What color do you think would go well with these 80's brown seats? just regular indoor/outdoor with no backing?
Also those 3 engine covers in the back are ripping up. new color vinyl or try to find same color.
btw, boat cover and sides are maroon.

Thx guys.

Welcome aboard:

I suggest some good marine vinyl in a brownish color to compliment your seats. I prefer vinyl for upkeep myself - so much easier to clean.

Thx I will look into the same vinyl replacement.

Whats your opinion on a carpet color to match?

i scoured the net for pics of boats with brown seats to get some ideas. its actually hard for me to find them. the ones i do, have fiberglass bottoms not wood like mine. so they use seadek etc.. which i would love if not for my plywood deck...

Usually you can find a lighter neutral (tan, for example). You probably can't match that delightful 1980s "it's supposed to look like leather" brown ... but you could compliment it with a lighter tan color.

Hmm.. ya I thought about tan, grey, or red. Red seems to be ahead so far.

Do you guys put rubber backed carpet over the plywood? or non backed?

Grey would be my choice if i had to chose carpet.I personally hate carpeting in a boat,id go with a textured vinyl or similar material. My buddy put a roll of some type of material in his smokercraft and what i liked about it was the slightly rough texture so it didnt become a water slide.

Hmmm... if you think vinyl material could go over a plywood deck... could that seakdek material be put over plywood? I always see it just over gelcoat.

I would consider your boat to be what we call "earth tones". So what ever you do, change or modify stick with browns and tans. I had a Marlin boat in the 80's , the interior was browns and tans. It looked plush and expensive even though it wasn't.

I agree with 82Rude. Vinyl floor all the way. Mine in my boat has a good texture that is soft on bare feet and offers very good traction. So easy to clean with a bucket of warm soapy water and a good scrub brush, followed up with a quick rinse with damp microfiber towels.

Thanks for the reply's.

I do think light tan would look good. And vinyl was not in the cards for this boat.
Boat is maroon and the new Bimini is maroon... soooo alot of people suggested burgundy/wine color carpet.
burgundy and brown go together but....its hard for me to see it. guess I will find out soon.

Ill post pics in a week or so when finished.

Its gonna be kinda classy or tacky as hell....

I might go with shag for that boat. It's coming back in. Seriously though a vinyl floor is the way to go. As far as colour keep with the Earth tones as suggested, I would.
