when trying to start my boat it only clicks it is not the battery because i alredy put a new one in now i can not raise the prop either . so both the engine when trying to start and the prop just make a ticking noise please give me some advise

Sounds like your not getting enough amps to the starter (or the solenoid could be bad).<br /><br />You may have corrosion on one or both of the battery wires. You said you put a new battery in? Are your battery wires flexible and clean? If they are stiff then you could possibly have corrosion inside the wire under the casing. <br /><br />First thing I'd do is try pulling off both battery wires, cleaning both terminals (and the wire ends) and reconnecting them again. <br />Sometimes you get a thin layer of buildup between the connections that, although it doesnt look like much, it can drastically reduce the amperage flowing across. That may fix the problem.

I have been experiencing a similar problem. I would start my motor and it would fine but snub when I put it in gear. I would then attempt to start it but only got a click. Turns out the bendix gear was jammed in the larger gear that turned over the motor. A slight but firm turn with a channel lock wrench and it cleared and started fine.

If it is audably clicking back there, the solenoid is prime suspect. get a stout (and i do mean stout) screwdriver that is long enough to jump the 2 bigger termi9nals on the solenoid. You do not need the key to be on for this,and I wouldn't have the ignition on when you try it (to prevent the motor from starting. If the engine turns-over, remove the solenoid, and take it to the nearest auto parts place. They should have it.

Hey Andrew. Check my post in reply to your other post. If you are getting solenoid click and no motor for starter AND for tilt you have a bad connection or ground on your battery cables.<br /><br />Bon Voyage.<br />JB
