Still lurking on the sidelines here. Hope you find the answer. I may try a decarb and then perhaps a carb cleaning this weekend. Will post results if I have some to post. Good luck to ya. I liked the diafram idea wish it worked for you.
By the way, mine runs way better in the water and horrible on muffs.

So I finally got to it and rebuilt my carbs. Real easy to do, I cut my own gaskets did not cost anything but time. Took a while to sync the timing and idle adjustment but when finished lo and behold that baby purred at 700 RPM in neutral running in a trash can. Thanks for the advice.
