I just had the carbs rebuilt on my 1984 Johnson 140 V4 crossflo engine .

I go to throttle it up to get er going and it like vibrates and boggs down and wont go into any faster speed than 10 miles an hour , so then thinking we rebuild the fuel filter on it , cause I was at pelican marine and they said a new one for mine was $358.00 .
They did have a rebuild kit for the fuel pump but being he said most people dont have any success in rebuilding them , for the $100.00 was still high to me but if most folks dont have succes in rebuilding them then why do you sell them???.
But anyway I went that route and put er in the water and still we only got fast a bout 2 times the rest of the time it was bogging down and vibratting again,
I am lost please someone give me some input on what to check or what could be the problem. Not only and I disapointed but I cant take another look of the disapointment on my 2 boys face when all this boat can do is idle My direct email is:

How is the spark? When the enigine would vibrate, did you check all 4 plug wires for spark? Use an inductive timing light to check for spark on each wire. The flashes from the light should show any misfires or nofires.

How did it run before the carb job?
Do as advised, get a cheap timing light at the auto store and check for spark, sounds electrical but you never know til you know.
