I didn’t run it for more than. A minute. And the oil doesn’t bother me I just didn’t know if it was normal or not.

As stated these motors have many parts in common year after year.----In fact the crank and rods are the same from 57 to 76 model year.---And yes most of the parts in 66 are the same as 67 / 68 model years

So I bought a trash can and filled it with water and good news, it’s pumping water through the motor. I will still get the impeller replaced just because of now knowing the history on it. I put fresh oil and gas in it mixed at 50:1. However will not stay running. Gonna get new plugs and replace the boots and wires and go from there. Just an update and thanks for your patience and all the help!

Hold off on the plugs, wires, and boots just yet. Be a waste of money if the problem was dirt in the carb. You need to do some basic trouble shooting to find out if the problem is fuel, spark, or compression. That said, it does sound like a fuel delivery problem. How long does it run before quitting? Does it start back up quickly?

I tried multiple times to start it. It wants to start but runs for a second then stalls. I got it to run for a solid minute. Ran really rough though. So i can’t get it to run more than 30 seconds if that

Bad (cracked) coils are very common on OMC motors from that vintage. Even if they aren't, you probably should pull the flywheel and service the ignition (clean/set points etc). But if they are cracked, you will never get it to run right until they are replaced. (Yes, even if it has spark)

Ok so is that a fairly simple job? Just a matter of taking a part and replacement?

You need a flywheel puller and a torque wrench. Many auto parts stores will loan you one. A strap wrench to hold the flywheel is handy too, especially if it does not have starter gear teeth.

When reinstalling the flywheel, the tapers must be clean and dry, and torque the nut to 40-45 foot pounds.

Ok so I got a puller for the flywheel but did not come with the right bolts that screw into the flywheel to pull it off. Does anybody know what size bolts are needed? Thanks in advance.

Johnson 1967 FD-21R coil replacement help

Ok so I got the flywheel puller. However, it did not come with the correct bolts for the flywheel which wasn’t expected anyway. But just to save me the time of running back and forth to the hardware store does anyone know what size The bolts are that screw into the Flywheel in order to get it off?? Thanks In advance!
