Not having much of a clue what you are even trying to work on....

TDC on number one?

TDC mark on flywheel should align with tdc marker and dimple under the plate on dist pulley?

PS, do you really need the angry red sour face icon/smiley attached to this post?

Re: help please timing set marks

Sounds like you have a grasp of it.

Sometimes the mark will be off ever so slightly, but one tooth off on the belt is a bunch, and you will see that.

If this is a new to you magneto (distributor) make sure the plug wire positions on the dist cap correspond with the cylinders that are fireing. The firing order should be cast into the area where the spark plugs go, or you can just turn it over by hand and determine firing order by the way the pistons come up to TDC in quarter turns of the flywheel. Clockwise from above (I believe)

PS I believe that is called a Magneto and those get serviced too.

You can drop the lower section of the magneto with those four little bolts, remove and disassemble the point set then file each contact square, flat, and perfectly clear of any pits, or points. Re assemble and set to .008 in (that's really a thing feeler guage)

Re: help please timing set marks

I'd have to go find the book and look.

It sounds pretty close though.

Are you using the mark on the plate that covers the dist pulley, or the mark on the pulley itself under the plate?
