I am all pumped because my resto project was to be done tomorrow and on the lake sunday. Finishing up wiring I hook up the battery to double check which wire is powered only when the key is on and pop out goes the whole system. I turn the key and nothing happens no power to starter nothing Im thinking just a fuse or breaker no biggie I start looking and cannot find a fuse or a breaker anywhere. I need to figure out whats up before sunday so I can get out on the water. heres the lowdown its an 85 hp evinrude v4 I have taken pictures of all the electrical stuff and the control unit if somebody could take a look and point out where a breaker or fuse might be I would appreciate it

Re: HELP Please!

I would almost try jumping it .... I thought I had a wiring issue once but it was just a battery w/ a low charge.

Seems like it takes a bit to kick a motor over..... also check and make sure you have good battery terminal connections. I am no master on wiring but I try to keep it simple and move forward from there.

good luck .... I was hoping to work on getting mine closer to take out ... but looks like it might rain today :(

Re: HELP Please!

Okay.... Do you have any power to anything on the boat?

Start at the battery..... is it charged up? Well disconnect it for now........

Take off each electrical connection one at a time and lightly sand the connector (use 80 grit sandpaper) and re-attach it. You have a bad connection somewhere and this will cure it. Pay attention to your starter and the infamous solenoid box. Every connection is critical.

You can do the same with the shift control box and every gauge under the dash.

Sounds complicated but it is effective. I see somebody used liquid electrical tape which is good stuff but it hides and conceals corrosion. Good luck. Been there done that.... :)

Re: HELP Please!

use your nose, I have found with a great deal of electrical problems you can find what went pop by the smell, good connections wont give off a foul odor

Re: HELP Please!

I would say take apart any electrical power plugs, and spray some WD-40 in them, then plug them back together, to make sure you get a good connection, and provide insurance against future issues
