Re: HELP Power Trim Relief Valve

I think you are on to something. I loosened the valve 4 or 5 turns because the motor was not moving. When the motor started down the valve and fluid shot out. The valve had what appeared to be a thread loosely attached to it. This may have in fact been the ring. I put the valve back in and it would not tigthen. However, I can now move the motor up and down by hand w/o the valve comming out. Will look closer tomorrow. I just found another valve for 16 bucks. I appreciate your help with this bizzare incident.

Re: HELP Power Trim Relief Valve

Here is an update. I said on Friday that I could not get the valve to tighten. On Sat. I tapped the valve with a hammer and screwdriver and immediately it tightened up. After it tightened fluid still comes out around it when you try to use the PT/T. Now I cant get the valve out to save my life. Any ideas? BTW the PT/T problem was a worn wire.

Remove the snap ring, hold a shop cloth over the valve, and have someone run the pump. Hyd. pressure should pop it out. Clean out the bore where this valve seats with a Q-Tip, and check for any nicks or scratch's. Did you replace the o-ring on that used valve? It would not be hard to damage the surface of these aluminum seats. They will not tolerate damage or contamination. Be careful when you pop that valve out, as it is under a lot of pressure. Hyd. fluid is going to spray around, so watch your eye's.

How do you remove the snap ring? Looking in it appears the o-ring is shot. There is not much room to work in there. I tried to do it Sat. using the PT/T system to shoot it out but I cant pressurise it now. Is it possible to drill out the motor mount to have more room to work? Just an idea. I am grateful for your help thus far.

It was still on the valve and when I tapped it with the hammer it must have popped back into place.
