I got power head off found rubber grommets melted shut getting parts using clymer Evinrude shop manual went step by step taking it apart now going backwards I read to install gearcase I never took the lower unit off to start should I now drop the lower unit before I install power head my engine 81 evinrude 15 hp mod#E15rcis ser#E0006570 your answers would be appreciated big joe

BigJoe..... Absolutely, if you want to stay sane, remove the lower unit. When installing that powerhead, you also have to get that water tube where it belongs. With the lower unit attached, you'll encounter problems aligning that tube that will drive you nutz!
