Sorry I do not have pics right now..I am at the boat trying to get the steering wheel assembly off and ran into some problems.

Being very new to all this I do not even know what the piece I am trying to remove is called...
The steering wheel came out easily after removing the nut behind the dash...that's as far as I got.

Now I have the column...hub...or whatever the black piece is called that is bolted to the dash and the steering wheel goes through.

I am guessing my steering is called rack and pinion based on other threads / searches I have read here.

There are three bolts in the back that go to a horse shoe shaped piece of metal..which attaches to the gear box (or whatever it is the spindle goes through).

I do not see any screws at all holding this black piece onto the dash...figured it was held on by the three bolts in back but now they are close to the end and are spinning while I try to take the nuts off...I can barely see them now since there is finally a 1/8 inch gab between the dash and this piece.

On the very front is a notch about 1/4 wide...I thought maybe this was a sleeve that needed to be turned to take the black piece off. I cannot see if there are threads or not though and do not want to break anything by pounding on this groove to try and turn the "possible" collar.

Sorry I don't have pics right now...if I can't get help soon I will continue tomorrow with pics.
Thank you.

Ok so more looking around and reading...found that mine is a "Ride Guide" rack and pinion.

I also found a photo that is the same as mine form what I can tell.

It would seem that I should just need to take the nuts off the back based on these photos but like I said now that they are close to the end the bolts are spinning with the nuts so I cannot get them off unless I try a vice grip method and probably strip the threads.

I can pull the colum / hub out just enough to see the top of the bolt that is spinning and can't really tell but may be a carriage bolt or soemthing non standard since it doesn't look to have flat edges.

Also just found this page which has a diagram that looks very close to mine...it is very small and hard to read but based on this I think I will just go spin the nuts some more and see what happens.
It looks like they may be posts that screw into the mounting bracket / hub.

Still any input would be great in case I am still stuck (which is highly likely..lol)
Thanks.

Nevermind this thread...it was posts on the back of it so after I kept turning them they finally came out...just took a lot of turns in a tight space.
