I dont believe any special tools are needed. If I recall, first you screw in the stop switch assembly all the way. This releases the stop switch from the twist grip. Then the twist grip has 2 little recessed tabs. They are 2 little round plastic tabs visible thru small recesses or holes on either side of the twist grip. Get 2 small screwdrivers and press in on both tabs at the same time. Also at the same time have an amigo pull the twist grip straight off. The 2 little tabs are what's holding it on. The tabs are attached to a part called the helix.
