I have a 96 bayliner with an alpha one gen 2 the throttle controls are plastic garbage and want to replace them. What we be the best product to replace this crummy control throttle it is a commander i believe and its very flaky it has trim controls and trailer height and a dead mans switch . Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

My personal preference is an old Commander 2000 outboard control box. I gut out the outboard electrics and just use the mechanicals, the neutral safety switch and the ignition kill switch... You can even get them with the trim controls in the handle...

Very metal, very strong... :D :D

Hi Achris.

I just trashed out a POS 3000 on my boat and installed a new 2000. My main reasoning was the fast idle mechanism. I liked the lift lever of the 2000 as compared to the pushbutton of the 3000.

The difference is the mounting. The 3000 is designed for a nice finish with minimum exposure whereas the 2000 has it all hanging out by mounting on the bulkhead rather than in it. If you have a play boat you may not like that whereas a fishing boat of modest means it makes no difference asthetically. Both have the PTT control on the handle.

This site may have them for sale. Otherwise go to westmarine.com. They have a gallery of really nice after market items.
